Amalia Caputo - Biography

Amalia Caputo was born in Caracas, Venezuela 1964. She holds a Bachelor in Art and Art History from the Universidad Central de Venezuela, where she graduated with honors in 1988. In 1995 she graduated from her Master in Arts in Photography at New York University and the International Center of Photography. She was a student and teacher assistant to Christopher Phillips, Nan Goldin, Eugene Richards, Mary Ellen Mark, Joel Peter Witkin and Carole Naggar among others. She has devoted to her carrer as an artist while she combines with her editing, writing and curating about art and photography.

Her first solo exhibition “ Somatic”was held at 80 Washington Sq. East Gallery, New York in1995, and her second solo show “Cobijo” was within the context of the X Primavera Fotográfica in Barcelona, Spain at the Convent de Sant Agustí in year 2000. Since 1989 she has exhibited widely in museums and galleries in Caracas, Barcelona, Mexico and US.

Lives and works in Miami, Florida since August 2003.
